During the summer of 2010 and as soon as I read the first chapter of Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning by Christopher Bishop, I immediately knew this was what I wanted to do in my life.
8 year later, I've obtained a PhD in Machine Learning from Imperial College London and 4 years of industrial experience in positions that allowed me to be at the forefront of recent developments in Deep Learning and Computer Vision.
My view about Machine Learning is based on the following firm beliefs:
a) The "best model" is like unicorns and bigfoot, a mythical creature. There is no free lunch.
b) There is no such thing as "practical machine learning". It is theoretical, unless we are using the underlying methods without understanding them.
c) It is all a matter of attitude and tenacity in the pursue of knowledge, rather than talent.
