Melissa Wright

Inflight Supervisor, PSA Airlines

Charlotte, North Carolina

I started out my career in the food industry, while this was definitely a fun place to be, however it was not going to be my home forever. I learned many of my skills as a hard worker in this industry.

As a young individual I learned the importance of on time performance, accuracy, team work and other very useful skills. I decided next to do administrative work. This was a great career because it taught me how important accuracy in your work can be, and how one little error can mean a huge snowball effect of the whole company. Thankfully I never had to experience those types of outcomes in my career, but the prospect of any little mistake was always on my mind. This, I think, set me up positively for the future because I was able to understand just how important all little aspects of a job can be whether or not you think they are.

I then moved into the aviation community. I believe this industry is well suited for me, it fits my personality, life style and overall goals in life so perfectly. Here I was able to understand self motivation, strengthen my customer service skills, learn more coping techniques for difficult situations as well as being able to have a hands on experience in the daily operations of the travel industry. Since beginning in the aviation field I have been through a merger, sale, pending divestiture, a furlough and a name change.

In late 2015 I left my career as a flight attendant and moved into Crew Scheduling. There I was able to see the daily operations and struggles of making sure all the flights are fully staffed and out on time. This has helped me grow as a part of aviation. Crew Scheduling has broadened my knowledge of the industry and has helped me focus my energy on understanding both the corporate and the front line aspect of aviation.

I moved into a more senior role from there, Crew Resource Coordinator. This position gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills in presentation, organization, communication and coordination. I conducted presentations on a daily basis with senior management. Compiled data and created spreadsheets and graphs for data analysis. I coordinated with senior management and third party vendors to ensure stability and consistency of daily operations.

I have been a stay at home wife in Dubai for the last 2 years. We are back in the USA and I am looking to settle into my new role as a Crew Scheduler/Operations Assistant at Kalitta Charters II and to expand on the knowledge I have obtained throughout my job history.
