For the past several years I've been working on research related to solar energy. My focus has been on coming up with cost effective ways to produce solar fuels (hydrogen, methanol, gasoline). In general these approaches involve using concentrated solar energy (heat) to drive chemical reactions. I'm also now spending about half of my time working in the area of thermal energy storage for utility scale concentrating solar power systems. This work involves developing heat transfer fluids and hardware for operation at temperatures up to 1000 Celsius.

In the past I've participated in research related to proton exchange membrane fuel cells, nuclear fusion, and gas turbines.
