Stephen J. Blank, Ph.D.

Speaker, Consultant, Writer | International Relations, Foreign Policy, Defense Strategy | Russia, Europe, Asia

Washington DC-Baltimore Area

I found my passion very early in life. As a child, I was fascinated with military strategy and international relations. I mustered and deployed hundreds of toy soldiers. I played game after game of Risk and Summit. I read all of the history books I could get my hands on, absorbing information about the confrontations of the past and, in time, applying their lessons to the world around me.

Today, I am an internationally recognized authority on Russian foreign policy matters with over 1200 published articles, fifteen books, and twenty-plus years as a call-first consultant to media worldwide, private firms, think tanks and the Congressional and Executive branches of the United States government. My expertise spans and incorporates the Russian, Soviet and post-Communist periods and I speak and write extensively on information warfare, energy politics, foreign policy, defense policy and strategy, and American, European and Asian security concerns.

I am currently an independent speaker, consultant, and writer as well as a Senior Fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council. Previously, I was a member of the U.S. Army War College faculty for over two decades, serving as the Douglas MacArthur Professor of Research from 1998-2001. I have had the privilege of consulting for the CIA, and the US Army, and chaired international conferences in the United States, UK, Italy, and the Czech Republic.
